HUGH O’BRIAN YOUTH LEADERSHIP APPLICATION
What is Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership?
It is the nation’s foremost youth leadership development organization. The HOBY mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.
Every year over 9,000 deserving high school sophomores from across the country are chosen to participate in HOBY Leadership Seminars. HOBY programs continue to evolve and teach high school students social responsibility, how they can make a difference, and what it means to be a global citizen.
Our past representatives are: senior, Anna Russ and junior John Harwood. If you are chosen, you are expected to attend the seminar at Youngstown State University, 6/1/17-6/4/17.
To apply for St. Thomas Aquinas’ HOBY representative for the 2016-2017 school year, any interested sophomore is asked to prepare an essay on the following topic:
“In 75 to 100 words, please describe the most rewarding and challenging aspect of being a leader in your school and community.” Also include a list of activities and service projects you have participated in at school or in the community. ADDRESS THE TOPIC!!
Please type the essay and activity list. Don’t forget to put your name on it also. Presentation always helps when people are reading your essay.
THE DEADLINE FOR RETURNING THE APPLICATION ESSAY TO THE GUIDANCE OFFICE IS 3:15 PM, NOVEMBER 7, 2016.
A selection committee will review all the essays and select a representative. The student will notified by the end of November. For more information, visit www.HOBY.org
