STA Announces New Principal for High School and Middle School

Frederic-Schlueter-PortraitWe are pleased to announce that Mr. Frederick Schlueter has accepted the position of Principal of St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Middle School beginning with the 2016-2017 school year.

Mr. Schlueter comes to us most recently as the associate principal of Alliance High School with experience in curriculum and assessment, development of discipline and positive behavior intervention and support programs, and personnel hiring and supervision. In addition to his four years of administrative background, he was a high school math teacher at Carrollton and West Branch High Schools for seven years. He also served for three years as assistant girls’ soccer coach at West Branch High School.

Mr. Schlueter holds a Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Youngstown State University. He earned his teaching license through the University of Mount Union as well as a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at the United States Naval Academy.

In addition to his career in education, Mr. Schlueter served in the U.S. Navy as an Operations and Diving Officer, Civil Engineer, and Resident Officer in Charge of Construction. He brings business experience as the previous owner and operator of A-1 Tree Service in Salem for 8 years.

As a volunteer, Mr. Schlueter was an adult leader for the Boy Scout Pack 6/Troop 6 at St. Paul Parish in Salem for fourteen years. He and his wife have served as 8th grade Confirmation catechists at the parish for 12 years.

Mr. Schlueter and his wife, Lori, have five adult children.

Mr. Schlueter stated, “I am humbled by the faith placed in me by the Youngstown Diocese and the Board of St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Middle School. I am very much looking forward to serving the students and families of STA and in working with an excellent staff to prepare our students for life.”

Father Dyer will continue to serve as school chaplain, and he will be heavily involved in working on the upcoming capital campaign. With the approval of the Board of Directors, an assistant principal will be hired to support the efforts of moving St. Thomas Aquinas forward into the next 50 years of truth, scholarship and excellence.
