The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation invites U.S. High School students to write an original essay on the political courage of a U.S. elected official.  For contest information, registration, and to submit your essay online, visit the Profile in Courage Award Program at www.jfklibrary.org.

National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship and Wings of Eagles Scholarship

USDAR awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the amount of $1,000.00 each.  Awards are based on academic and financial need and must have sponsoring chapter letter.  Additional information is available in the Guidance Center.

AES Scholarship

AES Engineering is pleased to be able to continue offering a scholarship to motivated students to help in the furthering of their education.  The criteria for this scholarship is their belief that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason they are offering a scholarship that will be awarded in the basis of character as determined by evaluating the essays that are submitted. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility.  You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible.  Amount of award is $500.00 and the deadline for entry is October 6, 2010.

First Freedom Student Competition

The First Freedom Center announces the 18th annual First Freedom Student Competition.  This national essay and video contest offers 9th - 12th grade students an opportunity to compete for $2,500 awards as they examine the First Ammendment and the history and implementation of religious freedom and freedom of conscience in American democracy and the world today.  This year, students will select a religion or belief group from their local community, state or region that was or is a minority group.  They will research and analyze its history as it encounters issues of religious freedom and equality, and then by written essay or video production, present their evaluation of how this group's local history compares to the broader narrative of U.S. history and First Amendment la.  For complete details visit www.firstfreedom.org and click on the student competition button.  Student registration is required on or before November 15, 2010 and the postmark for mailing the essay or video is November 27, 2010.

Nestle Very Best In Youth

Nestle is looking for young people (ages 13-18) to honor with the Nestle Very Best In Youth award. They are looking for young people who are passionate about giving back to their communities, doing well acadmically and have demonstrated the potential to lead others.  To date Nestle has honored more than 200 young people and donated more than $700,000.00 to organizations that these young adults are involved in.  Applications must be completed by November 1, 2010 on their website http://verybestinyouth.nestleusa.com.  Please visit their website for more information.

2011 Horatio Alger Scholarship

The Horatio Alger Association seeks to assist students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education and a desire to contribute to society.  Eligibility criteria and additional information may be found at their website at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships.
