Unfortunately the Canton Repository left out a few details from their article. Here’s the whole story from Coach Randy Crawford:
Well congratulations to the Lady Knights! Tonight they took 1st place overall as a team at the state indoor track and field championships.
The 4×800 relay got us off to a great start by winning in 9:51.73. The team of Athena Welsh, Hannah Soehnlen, Kacee Soehnlen and Kalee Soehnlen beat the second place team by 12 seconds.
Less than an hour later Athena came back to take second in the 1600 with a time of 5:03.85 getting edged out be less than a second despite still being tired from the 4×800.
The next person to score was Megan Hoffman who set a new personal best which makes it another school record in the pole vault by going 11’0″. This put her in sixth place.
Just over a half hour after the 1600, Kalee took second in the 800 with a time of 2:19.13. Athena ran once again and finished ninth in 2:23.93. Luckily for her this was her final race of the night. We asked a lot of her just to see what was possible and she ran great for us.
The final race of the night was another great showing with two newcomers to state competition. The 4×400 relay of Kacee, Natalie Vinci, Emma Pusateri and Kalee finished second with a time of 4:16.29.
Everyone ran or jumped very well tonight. Despite the extremely intense winter we had they have all been working hard and it shows. We will enjoy this one for now and get back to work on Monday as we start to prepare for the outdoor season.
