Description of trip: Junior Retreat -Connected to Religion Class -Catholic Social Teaching

Activity: Students will meet in The Commons for Attendance. Students will be divided into small work groups and will work at a variety of non-profit organizations in Canton or Louisville.This day of service is connected to what is being discussed in the Religion Class, regarding Catholic Social Teaching. Work sites include, Refuge of Hope, Catholic Day Services, YWCA, House of Lorretto, Salvation Army, Stark County Hunger Task Force, Sancta Clara Monastery. Students maybe be working outdoors- landscaping, weeding, mulching, planting, painting. Students may be inside cleaning, organizing items/donations, food pantry, meal preparation and clean up and possible lifting/moving items, cleaning wheelchairs for elderly. If weather is a factor- the organizations have other tasks that need completed indoors. Some students if doing landscaping (yard work) may be asked to bring rakes, etc.

Lunch: Students are to bring a packed lunch & water bottles. (no coolers provided). Students working at Refuge of Hope will be provided a lunch.

Dress Code: Please remember students are representing St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Therefore, appropriate clothing is required. Jeans or sweats (no yoga pants, no shorts) No cami or tank tops permitted- no cut off or cut out shirts. Shirts must have sleeves.No sandals or flip flops. Students must wear athletic shoes or work boots. Students may wear hat & bring sunscreen.

TRANSPORTATION: Students will be transported by bus to work site. Students will be picked up from site between 2:30-2:45pm and will be returned to school. Students will immediately go to The Commons for the remainder of the school day.

Notes: Junior retreat is a requirement for the school year. Students who are absent day of Junior retreat, will be required to make up the retreat. Plans will be made with Mrs. May. If student is out of dress code-parents will be called and expected to pick up child, bring proper clothing and transport student to works site.
