Girls Indoor Track & Winter Conditioning

A Note From Coach Crawford & Indoor Schedule

2014 - State Runner-Up!

2014 – State Runner-Up!

  • Hi Indoor Track Participants,

The 2015 indoor meets have finally been posted and I have attached a schedule of the meets I am planning on making available to you. Remember that nobody has to participate in the meets to be eligible to join us for winter conditioning. But you must join us for winter conditioning to be eligible for the meets. We use the indoor meets as a fun break in the monotony of offseason training or as a gauge to see where you stand. Last year we just happened to finish 2nd in the state as a team at the state indoor championships and we are the defending 4×800 relay champions. Please look at the schedule and let me know which if any meets you would like to be in and what events interest you.

Instead of a 100 or 100 hurdles the meets usually have a 60 meter dash or 60 meter hurdles and there is no indoor discus or 4×100 relay. Otherwise the events are pretty much the same.

There is no school budget for entry fees so we ask each athlete to cover the cost of entry for herself. If anyone wants to run but can’t pay, I will find a way to cover that cost.

Please call or email with any questions.

    Coach Crawford

  • January 17th (Sat) – Akron University Jerome Fields Open: Cost for this meet is $10 per athlete. We can put up to 2 girls per event in this meet. It’s a decent meet at a great facility and is held at the facility where the state indoor championships will be held.

February 8th (Sun) – Mount Union High School Open: Cost is $10 per athlete. We can enter 3 girls per event. This meet starts in the early afternoon. It is usually not too crowded so it runs a bit quicker than the Akron and Kent meets. The track is only a 200 meter track so it’s not as good for great times but we have had state qualifying times on this track in the past.

February 14th (Sat) – Spire Scholastic Showcase: This meet starts later in the afternoon for our division. Entries are limited to girls who have met certain standards such as being a state qualifier last year or having a top 10 indoor time so far in this year’s indoor lists. So not everyone will be able to be in this one. It is the best competition you will face this indoor season and that may include the state indoor meet. Cost is $5 per athlete and $10 per relay.

March 7th (Sat) – State indoor championships: This meet is for those who meet the qualifying times to enter. To qualify you must have at least a top 25 time in the state (division 2/3). Out of those 25 they will accept the top 16 who apply for the meet. Not all 25 apply for each event. So some who are below the top 16 still get in.

I am not planning on going to the February 22nd meet at Kent State but there is one in case someone needs a last chance to set a state qualifying time. We will look at that as the indoor season unfolds.
